The chilcuague (Heliopsis longipes)  ¨a golden root¨ is a traditional Mexican plant, known for its spicy flavor and numbing sensation in the mouth. A rare plant of the sunflower family (Asteraceae), found only in some states of northern and central Mexico. "Chilcuague" has its origin in Nahuatl because this plant was recognized as chilcoat - "chil" means spicy and "coatl" means the shape of its root, which looks like a snake.
